The Teacher:
Adam Pappas has played the violin for over 37 years and is a skilled violist with 22 years of Suzuki teaching experience. He began teaching in 2001 while studying at Brandon University during his Bachelors degree and continuing through his Masters. In addition, he holds several teaching certificates from, and is an active member of, the Suzuki Association of the Americas.
The Philosophy:
I teach almost exclusively via the Suzuki Method of musical instruction with very few exceptions, but also take a small number of adult hobbyists and
conservatory or university prep students who may or may not have had prior Suzuki training. The goals and ideals of the Suzuki method are to produce
thoughtful and critically thinking individuals through high level musical training. The main facet of this method is to start the children young with the strict
and constant involvement of the parent. I will start students as young as 3 years old and teach the parent the fundamentals of the instrument and the
method along with the child during the early years so that they may work together in the home environment. Through this approach, the teacher, student
and parent form a customized program which allows the child to progress to a high level at their own pace according to their own gifts. Students are also
expected to attend and be an active part of group classes and ensemble training.
I am highly committed to the long-term music education of my students and their parents from the beginner levels straight through to university prep. While the Suzuki method was not intended to train professional musicians, it is my personal commitment to your child that they receive the training they need to take it to that level. Musical training has been proven to enhance cognitive and social functioning and grants a discipline which will serve well in school or in any career. The greatest benefit to you and your child comes from a commitment to take advantage of the full scope of these services.
Joining the Studio:
Joining the Adam Pappas Studio is a serious and long term commitment. Aside from agreeing to the studio policy and paying your fees, in order to fully
register, new students must come in for a consultation (both parent and child) and you must also observe at least two private lessons and two group
classes (scheduled by appointment only).
In addition to the registration contract and studio policies, Adam Pappas and his clients also adhere to the SAA Aspirational Code of Ethics.
